"Nintendo Wii - Free" - Stop! Before you click, please read this!

Bad Free Wii Be careful what links you click on.  As I was searching on google for the latest Wii information I was returned this sponsored Link:

Nintendo Wii - Free - YourDealNetwork.com/Wii - Participate for a Free Nintendo Wii So, Deal or No Deal?

Now I have taken off the harmful link so you will not be able to get there from this article.  I knew that the link was harmful because I use McAfee SiteAdvisor.  everythingWii.net is not associated with this product in  anyway other than the fact we use it to warn us of site with wrong intentions.   McAfee SiteAdvisor had humble beginnings:

"SiteAdvisor was founded in April 2005 by a group of MIT engineers who wanted to make the Web safer for their family and friends. Having spent one too many holiday breaks trying to clean a mess of spam, adware, and spyware from our families' computers, we decided to take action. "

Does that sound like anything you have ever had to do?  I know I have spend my fair share of time working on my parent's and in-laws spyware infested computers.   The MIT engineers had a great idea but I really like how they approaced the problem.

"To address this challenge, we built a system of automated testers which continually patrol the Web to browse sites, download files, and enter information on sign-up forms. We document all these results and supplement them with feedback from our users, comments from Web site owners, and analysis from our own employees. "

The picture below is the site I mentioned earlier.  If you look closely you will see the red block in next to my Google Toolbar- this is the McAfee SiteAdvisor Toolbar.  It will provide more details about the site you are one.  Here is what it says about this YourDealNetwork.com/Wii site:

"When we tested this site we found links to imusicsearch.com, which our analysis found to be deceptive or fraudulent."

Stay away from strangers who offer you candy

More information from SiteAdvisor about this site can be found here.

So, if you want to use Yahoo and Google to search this wonderful thing called the internet, then I  highly recommend you check out McAfee SiteAdvisor.  They have a version for Firefox and Internet Explorer.  It is a small plug in that provides instant feedback on your search in Google and Yahoo (MSN does not support this service at this time). It will also tell you approximately how many e-mails you will get sent if you give your e-mail address to the site you are visiting.  Best of all it is FREE!  Let me know how you like it.

You can discuss this article and tool in this thread in the forum.

everythingWii.net wants to keep your computer free from nasty things, so you can spend more time telling us what you like and dislike about the wii.
